O'Donnell Residence, Oasis Springs, 2027
It was Christmas at The O'Donnell's and they had invited over their favourite family, the Fowls for Christmas lunch.
"Well, enough about me and my research, how about you?" said Adrian's mum, Alivia O'Donnell.
"Well I can't say it's been as full on as exploring new vaccines for Sweaty Shivers. It's scary how the antibiotics don't work anymore."
"Yeah, but we've seen this coming for a while now, " Alivia said, her voice just loud enough for Toni, opposite her, to hear. "It's been over many years, that Sweaty Shivers have built up resistance to our antibiotics. It doesn't help that Simsland is suffering from overcrowding, either, which Sweaty Shivers thrives on - that and poor hygiene, which can be a symptom of overcrowding. Just look at how many families share small houses these days. It's no wonder that Sweaty Shivers is increasing."
Toni hummed in agreement. That's one good thing about being a vampire, then. You don't have to worry about diseases like these. She then thought of her human children and her mouth tightened.
"Do you want to hear some good news?" said Toni, eager to change the subject.
"Oooh yes," Alivia replied.
"That little Sneaklord, Lauren, will be off volunteering in Granite falls tomorrow and she will be gone for a year. Isn't that good news?"
"Ah, Toni, that is great news," smiled Alivia. She did not appear as enthusiastic as Toni was, but that may have been to do with the previous topic of conversation on Sweaty Shivers. "You and your family will have a breather this holiday, then."
"Not exactly," said Toni. "We still need to find a way of handling Edith and Caleb. Remember they have been plotting with Lauren too. Lauren, in fact, is probably the runt of the group. Edith and Caleb are still capable of carrying out their plans to kill us. I wouldn't be surprised if Edith wheedles her way into becoming a teacher at Oracle High School."
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Adrian and Toni's daughter, Cas, were also having a deep conversation, of sorts.
"Come on! You have to tell me who you're dancing with at the 'talent quest!'" Adrian laughed. Every year, Oracle High School held a performing arts competition that students could participate in called the 'talent quest.'
"I told you, Adrian, it's a surprise!" Cas exclaimed. "You'll find out at the talent show, anyway. Then you can tease me all you like."
"No I can't," said Adrian. "Because you're going to Champ Les Sims straight afterwards on that exchange programme."
"Oh, poor Adrian will have to wait two months to tease me."
"I still have your phone number."
"And I still have the 'spam' button."
Just then Toni's phone started ringing and so she left the room to take the call.
'"Well, hello, Paris?... yes the makeup kit's from me. Why, thank you and the eyeshadow's a perfect shade, for when you're feeling masculine ... Yes, yes, the Grandmaster. Also, have you noticed the eyeliner's not as thick as you usually have it? ... no it's not a lipliner, I just thought you might want a change from the usual trash-I mean-gothic make-up that you usually wear...as a female, that is... no no, you're gorgeous Paris, absolutely gorgeous - you look great in anything... How's Lauren's packing going?...Oh, so you haven't told her yet? Just going to drop the bomb on her tomorrow?...Yes, sounds like you....Bad news?...uh-huh...uh-huh...
"WHAT? That son of a Sneaklord!...yes, I meant the literal. How DARE he date my DAUGHTER!...Why didn't you intervene when you had the chance? You were there passing the school courtyard, weren't you? You saw them practicing their dance moves in close proximity...I don't care she's your sister's son, I don't want them dancing at that talent quest next term, are we clear? Good. AND DON'T YOU DARE GO TELLING EDITH ABOUT THIS. SHE ALREADY HAS HER EYES ON MY DAUGHTER AS IT IS. HEARING ABOUT WHAT HER SON'S UP TO WILL CERTAINLY TIP HER OVER THE EDGE."
Oh, Cas, what did Victor do or say to make you be so careless?
